How we work with other organisations

We regularly meet and discuss issues with other organisations which have opinions on consumer interests in financial services.

In particular, we have exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding with Consumer Focus. This ensures we coordinate with Consumer Focus, which works as an overall consumer champion in the UK. This means that consumer issues in regulation of the financial services industry are joined up with regulation and consumer representation in other sectors.

We also have regular liaison with other consumer bodies such as Which?, Citizens Advice, Age UK, and the UK Shareholders Association.

We debate policy developments with financial services trade bodies and keep in touch with the issues of concern to the FSA’s parallel Practitioner Panels.

We are also in regular contact with related regulatory bodies, such as the Office of Fair Trading, Financial Ombudsman Service, Financial Services Compensation Scheme and National Employment Savings Trust.

Terms of reference

Beyond our statutory remit in the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, we have formal terms of reference agreed with the FSA which set out our role and responsibility
