Mike Chapman
What he does outside the Panel
Mike runs his own advisory consultancy specialising in financial capability, financial inclusion and community regeneration.
Positions held in the past
Previously, Mike was Director of the Scarman Trust in Scotland and an associate director of the Centre for Research into Socially Inclusive Services at Heriot Watt University. He has also held the roles of Financial Inclusion Officer for the City of Edinburgh, and Research Officer at the Scottish Office.
Reasons for joining the Panel
Mike wants to help make sure that the regulator ensures that everyone can gain access to financial services and has the opportunity to engage in them. Feeling that regulation should be an enabler rather than a hindrance to this public engagement, he joined the Panel in January 2007. He also joined to help give the FSA a much broader public policy view.
Areas of particular interest on the Panel
With his background, Mike is very interested in the issue of financial inclusion and the FSA’s work on financial capability. He is particularly interested in the Money Guidance pathfinder, which he sees as both a challenge and an opportunity for the FSA.   He is also interested in Europe and an international perspective on the Panel’s work.Â
