David Metz
What he does outside the Panel
David has an active interest in the area of ageing and the issues surrounding our health and other needs as we get older. He is a non-executive director of NHS Camden and a volunteer benefits advisor for Age Concern. He is also a visiting professor at the Centre for Transport Studies, University College London.
David has written two books: he co-authored Older Richer Fitter - identifying the customer needs of Britain's ageing population; and in 2008 he published The Limits to Travel – How far will you go?
Positions held in the past
David started his career as a biomedical research scientist with the Medical Research Council. Later he became an administrator in a number of government departments, including having responsibility for regulation of the gas industry.
Reasons for joining the Panel
David brings to the Panel a keen interest in the needs of older people for financial advice and guidance. His experience and knowledge meant he could offer a valuable perspective to the Consumer Panel.
Areas of particular interest on the Panel
David is helping develop the Panel’s involvement in the area of Later Life. This includes the commissioning of a scoping study and follow up activities to address the shortcomings of the financial services sector in meeting the needs of older people.
