What she does outside the Panel

Claire is a professional researcher, policy analyst, and consumer champion.  She is currently a freelance consultant helping organisations develop their capacity to understand and respond to consumer needs, and undertaking specialist research and policy development in the fields of consumer disadvantage, poverty, debt, credit regulation, financial and social exclusion.

Positions held in the past

Claire was previously Head of Consumer Futures at the National Consumer Council until the end of 2008.  Before that time she has held various policy and research roles at the Personal Finance Research Centre, National Consumer Council and Welsh Consumer Council.

Reasons for joining the panel

With a longstanding career as a consumer-focussed researcher, specialising in people's access to and experience of financial services, Claire wanted to bring her research expertise and consumer experience to the Panel's work.  She is keen to help the FCA to identify and understand consumer impact and, in particular, to ensure that the needs of vulnerable consumers are recognised and addressed.

Areas of particular interest on the Panel

Claire wants to help ensure that consumer interests are recognised throughout the regulatory process, and work to see how the FCA and the financial services industry can better identify and respond to consumers' needs. She is particularly interested in making sure that progress in achieving banking inclusion is consolidated and increased under the new regulatory arrangements.
