Caroline Gardner
What she does outside the Panel
As well as her work on the Panel, Caroline also works in Financial Services Strategy for Deloitte, a major accounting and consulting firm. She has been with Deloitte for over ten years.
Caroline is also a member of the Investment and Life Assurance Group’s Protection Strategy Group where she chairs a group looking at how financial capability can be improved to better protect consumers.
Positions held in the past
Caroline has over twenty years experience in strategic consulting in the financial services sector and previously worked for PA Consulting.
Reasons for joining the Panel
Through her work looking at consumer behaviour and interaction, Caroline saw that the balance of power between supply and demand in many financial services markets was not optimum and consumers were not being empowered. She thought that working for the Consumer Panel would be very worthwhile and could fit in well with her other responsibilities.
She also considered that joining the Panel would be challenging as it responds to the whole range of retail regulation. This was something potentially very interesting, to which she could have a significant contribution.Â
Caroline finds her work for the Panel generally very rewarding and purposeful. The Panel enjoys interaction at the the most senior level with FSA staff. She especially enjoys working with the other Panel members, who come from diverse backgrounds and share her commitment.
Areas of particular interest on the Panel
Caroline has found the Panel’s work on the Retail Distribution Review particularly important and feels that the panel have made a significant contribution to the debate and the policy development process. Caroline also covers pensions issues on behalf of the Panel and represents the panel on the Personal Accounts Delivery Authority’s Consumer Representative Committee.
